In reply to C Ellis:

I don't fully understand your question. Do you mean in what way would a Russian film about the war be propaganda as opposed to historically accurate?

If so, I'm fairly sure the Russian cinematic version of the events (which I haven't seen) never suggests that the Russians laid the foundations for this whole conflict by stoking separatism in Ossetia, Ajaria and Abkhazia, which they did - not with any genuine concern for the people there, but with the desire to keep Georgia fractured, unstable, and therefore out of NATO.

Last time I was in Tbilisi, the Georgian Army was rehearsing for its annual (but not this year) parade to mark Independence Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE3WkKneOh8&feature=fvw).

The driver bravely doing battle with the roadblocks to take me to the Armenian border was heard to mutter darkly that it would be a perfect day for Russia to invade South Ossetia, since every soldier in the country was occupied on Rustaveli Avenue.

"only to retreat into a position of craven victimhood when his army showed itself incapable of resisting the Red Army for more than a day" !

If it's recognised that president Saakashvili started the war, in what way would the Russians inject further propaganda?

Not everything out there is propaganda. There’s an objective documentary that looks at this war and the fallout for Saakashvili. Check out some clips…
