As for his popularity with Americans - well, I think it&#039;s because his name starts with &quot;B&quot; and most of them still think Blair is our PM! Honestly ... not long ago someone wrote to me and said, &quot;I didn&#039;t know Blair was no longer your prime minister&quot;.

Brown&#039;s biggest problem is still avoiding &#039;New Labour&#039; being no more than a ten-year blip in history, imho. I speak as a politically non-committed watcher who thinks we got rid of the wrong man last June.

If he fails, my imaginary Wikipedia entry for Labour 2050 might be nearer the mark than I thought when I wrote it.</description>
